In conjunction with Fund II, BIP has established an Operating Partner model to provide additional support for our portfolio companies. Operating Partners will leverage their networks and experiences to assist in sourcing deals, due diligence, board representation and driving value creation for each investment.
Operating Partner Bios
Frank Newlands, M.D.
Dr. Newlands is a board certified Internal Medicine Physician with 14 years of Healthcare experience in both clinical and administrative settings. He has served as the Director of Hospitalist Services for Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina for the last seven years. Dr. Newlands also serves as the Healthcare Director for Vendormate, Inc., a software technology and analytics company based in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Newlands is a graduate of American University of the Caribbean and has completed clinical training in London, United Kingdom. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia and has a BS from North Carolina State University.
James M. Hamilton (Jamie)
Mr. Hamilton is the Managing Director of Hamilton Ventures LLC where he is responsible for the formulation and implementation of the investment strategy, including the review of potential investments, the monitoring of existing investments, and the formulation of disposition strategies. Before forming Hamilton Ventures, Mr. Hamilton was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Capital Investments Inc.
Mr. Hamilton has an extensive background in alternative investments, including early stage investing, and has placed over $50 million of private equity to work in transactions totaling $125 million.
James C. Robinson, M.D.
Dr. Robinson is a board certified Neurosurgeon at Atlanta Brain and Spine Care. He is a recognized leader in minimally invasive surgical procedures for brain and spine disorders. Dr. Robinson is a member of many prestigious organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), the AANS-CNS Section on Disorders of the Spine, Joint Section on Cerebrovascular Surgery, and Alpha Omega Alpha.
Dr. Robinson earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. At the renowned Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he completed a surgical internship, neurosurgical residency, and research fellowship in Epilepsy Surgery.
John K. Tolmie
Mr. Tolmie is a seasoned healthcare executive, leader and entrepreneur with over 28 years of successful and progressive experience. He is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of TTG Healthcare Solutions, a healthcare consulting company offering strategic planning, operational and financial turnaround, strategic partnering, physician alignment and market positioning to healthcare organizations.
Prior to forming TTG Healthcare Solutions, Mr. Tolmie was the President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph Medical Center, a 354-bed Acute Care Facility with $375 million in net revenues and a medical staff of over 1000 members.
Mark A. Kirsch, Esq.
Mr. Kirsch is a seasoned franchise attorney, and is a partner with Gray Plant Mooty in Washington, DC. Mark has over 27 years representing franchisors and licensors, in a wide range of industries, including restaurants, retail, hospitality, health care, manufacturing, and business services. Mr. Kirsch’s experience includes working with early stage franchisors to assist them to grow to regional and national systems, and counseling companies on domestic and international expansion. Mr. Kirsch is a frequent author and lecturer on franchise issues, including the acquisition of franchise companies.
Mr. Kirsch is a leader in the franchise industry and franchise bar, and has received various honors including recognition in the International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers and Best Lawyers in Washington, DC. He currently is Vice Chair of the International Franchise Association’s Supplier Forum and is a member of the IFA Board of Directors.
Michael and Timothy Muir
Messrs. Muir have a combined 48 years of hospitality experience working for companies such as Days Inn and Holiday Inn Worldwide and are two of the founding partners of U.S. Franchise Systems, a publicly traded hotel franchisor. U.S. Franchise Systems was founded in 1995 with 15 employees and grew into a 525 franchise hotel chain. During their franchise sales careers, collectively, the Muir brothers have sold more than 4,000 franchises.
Robert T. Atwood
Mr. Atwood is an accomplished operating executive with over 35 years of managerial and consulting experiences. He was previously the Chief Financial Officer of First Union Corporation (now Wells Fargo Corporation) and of Corautus Genetics Inc. Prior to that, Mr. Atwood was with Deloitte & Touche for twenty-nine years where he served as the National Director of the Financial Services Group.
Currently, Mr. Atwood is the founding partner of Forest Partners where he provides operational and strategic guidance for developing companies.
